DEFEND YOURSELVES AGAINST HERDSMEN, BANDITS’ ATTACKS, KAIGAMA TELLS NIGERIANS

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has backed the calls by some eminent Nigerians for  people to defend themselves, if government failed to protect them from herdsmen and bandits’ attacks.

Above all, he urged the government to do more to protect the people from criminal elements seeking death and destruction. Kaigama, who spoke in Abuja at a press conference to mark his 62nd birthday celebration, weekend, blamed the social unrest and the insecurity affecting the nation on injustice. “Killing human beings is criminal. It is a grievous sin and totally ungodly. It’s so sad the way we kill in this county. It does not portray the country in good light. “I am sad that the killings have not stopped. I am not sure enough is being done at all levels to bring these killings to a comprehensive stop. “Unjust attacks call for self-defence. This is in line with theological principles. It is naivety to sit back and be killed  because you’re a man of peace.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by Air Vice Marshal Idi Lubo, stated this on Tuesday when he led a team of officers on a courtesy call on Governor Yahaya Inuwa at the Gombe Government that arrangements have been concluded by the Nigerian Air Force to establish an operational base in Gombe State. To ensure the speedy take-off of the base, the governor announced the allocation of 230 hectares of land close to the Gombe Airport, while space was also allocated to NAF in the airport. Boko Haram terrorrists attacks IDP camp, several people killed

At least, 16 people were killed in an attack on a camp for displaced people in northern Cameroonby  f ighters from the Boko Haram jihadist group on Sunday  said an official. “The toll is currently 16 dead, it is clear that it was Boko Haram that was responsible,” local mayor Mahamat Chetima Abba told AFP following the overnight attack on the Nguetchewe camp. A local politician described the area where the attack took place as one in which people would “hide” from Boko Haram attacks. The jihadist group, formed in northeastern Nigeria in 2009, has regularly launched attacks there since 2014, staging small-scale raids aimed at stealing livestock and food. The area is known as the Far North, an impoverished tongue of land that lies between Chad to the east and Nigeria to the west. “There had been a relative calm for a few weeks, but they took advantage of their knowledge of the terrain to bypass surveillance points and the positions of the security forces.
